Now if there are among you husbands and wives cultivating DAO together, you must treasure it even more. If only the husband does, or only the wife does, then the one who cultivates must help and transform the other (through good words and actions). This is mutual forgiveness and mutual acceptance. How else can a relationship be made perfect and complete (or 圓滿yuan2-man3)*?

For example, if two people are in a partnership and one of them can only give out three-tenths of their total strength, then the other must help out by contributing seven-tenths of their combined strength. Only then the relationship can be called Yuan-Man* or perfect and complete.

*Perfect & Complete, Yuan Man 圓滿 : [yue-ann2 maan3} YUAN means Round. MAN means Full.

When females (Kun1 Dao4) encounter unusual events, they may get startled; when encountering negative trivial matters, they may become sad and depressed. Hence, Kun-Dao must be strong at heart whenever they encounter unusual events. You may shed tears every now and then, but your heart must stay still and calm. Don’t go off into fantasy or let your mind run wild. For example, when someone glances at you, don’t automatically assume that person has a crush on you. Hence, you must strengthen your mind and make it centered and healthy. Kun-Dao must also fine-tune their YIN energy* so that the YIN1 & YANG2 energy can be balanced and harmonized.

QIAN2-Dao4 [tsee-ann2 dow4] (males) have the energy of being Yang2*, strong and persistent. But this may easily cause them to be insensitive or nasty to people. Qian2-Kun1 [tsee-ann2 kaune1] and Yin1-Yang2* must blend together in harmony and be of help to one another.

If a Kun1- Dao4’s Yang energy is too intense, then she could lose a portion of her tenderness. If a Qian2-Dao4 has a temperament of being overly delicate, he would appear less masculine. Only when all these opposite characters are well-regulated and harmonized would our daily life be colorful and interesting.

*Qian2 乾: symbol of the heavens, the sun, and the males

*Kun1坤 : symbol of the earth, the moon, and the females

*Yin1陰 : the passive principle or energy of the universe -

being still, tender and shady in nature

*Yang2陽: the active principle or energy of the universe - being active, strong, and bright in nature.

You really must teach and raise your children and grandchildren very well. Let them all understand the Truth of life and don’t let them do any harm to society, isn’t it so? This is also an unsurpassed Gong1-De2 [gung1 de2] 功德 or beneficence (good merits).

GC. 19

If the husband is gentle and pleasant, the wife will surely be agreeable and supportive; she will also surely treat and serve her parents-in-law respectfully.

May the daughters-in-law of the world serve their fathers and mothers-in-law with a gentle and agreeable heart. How can the sons be spoiled? How can the daughters be pampered? Spoiling and pampering will surely lead to arrogance and indulgence. May the parents of the world teach their young with a strict and kindly heart.
